Giger the poster child by ZombieHun Giger the poster child by ZombieHun
This is Giger, my new Mexican Black king. He is particularly special to my collection because he is the symbol of me conquering my fear of snakes. The black snake was what I feared the most and even when i first got into snake ownership, I was still afraid of black snakes but that was short lived. My Florida King eased me into dark snakes and that led me to finally want to bring home my own Mexican Black King.

I love snakes. I was talking about them with one guy once and he totally FREAKED OUT. He can't stand them, and I was totally confused. They're so cool! The way they wrap around you, the way they move like water, they're jsut so cool!

Giger is one of the most sweet snakes i own. i only own two butts...well, one known butt, the other probably just isn't used to me yet because I just got him recently (my hognose) so i'm taking things very slowly with him ^_^

do you own snakes?

I used to. I grew up with a ball python, he was HUGE!

And then had a red tailed boa, another ball python, and two bull snakes, Connie and Nasty. Nasty was a piece of work, but the rest of them "wouldn't hurt a fly." I love snakes, been bitten a few times, but none too bad.

Hahaha oh yes! That they do! Love the pythons and boas for being so BIG!

If I could, I'd have an anaconda :)

Resisting buying snakes is like resisting buying chocolate.

oh man, Anaconda? I always see at least one wherever theres a reptile distributor. its usually not for sale. Anacondas are very pretty, however I'm not into those large animals.

I do love snakes, I love lots of pets but I am more on the conservative side when it comes to large snake, tiger, bear etc ownership. If that makes any sense.

why can't you have a snake now? in school?

I'm glad to hear you were able to get over your fear of snakes. Now it sounds like you have alot of love and respect for them. Now if only I could get over my fear of spiders....

I know what you mean, I don't want to be freaked out about them, and some are pretty neat. But, none are cool enough for me to love them all and not have to urge to squish one when I see one.

my blood doesn't clot like it should its usually very thin i have the blood disorder ITP it effects my blood platelet count and when extremely low it can cause me to become deathly ill an bruise easily if you look up ITP there is no cure for it an its not contagious you have to be born with it or have someone in your family who has had it... um but i have a rare form of ITP usually people who have ITP get or have some sort of cancer but a small percentage has just the blood disorder its self... it can sometimes effect a women's menstrual cycle or even when giving birth...

if you are seriously loving snakes and are afraid of being bitten, then you must 1. know that all animals bite so just keep that in mind and 2. get one that doesn't get large like boas and pythons. And when it does bite, its not a disaster. The bigger they are, the meaner the bite however.

get a hatch ling corn, king, milk or even get a baby ball python. The ball pythons natural demeanor is very very docile and they're easier to warm up to. Corns and kings and milks aren't nippy, but they get nervous easily.

If you start out little, you too grow with them ^_^

steer clear of boas in general and steer clear of pythons that are not ball pythons. Other boas and pythons either get very large and/or tempermental.

ty for the advice an sorry it took so long to type back i just got back from my dads... but you where right my dad almost ran over an eastern garter snake in our back yard he was very small and because the ones here arnt poison these are harmless i picked it up an it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be i just kept calm an it was fine an after a few mins of holding it i felt comfortable and not so nervous maybe now i could get used to other types... they eat bugs and small frogs an stuff out our yard all the time an so i put it in a open lid bucket an fed it a few small frogs and when it was done i released it back out into the woods... i think if i keep takein small steps an holding the smaller ones i will be ok...

at least you were able to pick up a snake, i couldn't. the funny thing is i wasn't always afraid of snakes. when I was 14 my mother had a rat snake that she tamed and i was so fascinated by it she let me hold it and pet it and enjoy it for hours. it wasn't until i got the smell of raccoon on my sweatshirt did it decide to bite my sleeve (not me, but my sleeve). This was after i picked it up to hold it later that day. I didn't freak out or anything, but something turned a switch in my head that magically made me afraid from then on out.i just don't get it  I couldn't pick up a snake by myself until I brought home my first snake and even then I literally had to psych myself out to do it! lol. oh lordy.

but yeah, start out small and you'll be fine :)

Omg I want one now. I didn't think I'd be interested in a King again but this one, I am totally getting. I am envious, he is absolutely gorgeous! How much did you pay for him? I know you got him at the show which is usually much cheaper, but it's just out of curiosity lol.
